When Donald Trump was about to become a father to his firstborn son, he first refused to let his wife name him Donald Trump Jr. because he was worried about one thing.
“I said, ‘Why not?'” his wife recalled the conversation they had at the time. “He said, ‘How about if he’s a loser?'”
His first wife, Ivana Trump, revealed her reply to her then husband’s strange concern about their son being a “loser.”
“I said, ‘This is going to be what it is. I carry my kid for nine months, and this is what’s going to be,” Ivana Trump told ABC News. “And the same was with Ivanka. He wanted to call Ivanka Tiffany because we got the heir rights for the Trump Tower from [luxury retailer] Tiffany.”
They did name their firstborn son Donald Trump Jr. and their daughter Ivanka. But the name Tiffany was given to the daughter that Donald Trump had with Marla Maples, the woman with whom Donald Trump cheated on his first wife with.
Donald Trump and his first wife were married to each other for about a decade and a half, from 1977 to 1992. But by December 1989, she knew that the end of her marriage was coming when she was approached by Donald Trump’s Mistress.
“This young blonde woman approached me out of the blue and said ‘I’m Marla and I love your husband. Do you?'” Ivana Trump wrote in her memoir, Raising Trump, as reported by Independent. “I said ‘Get lost. I love my husband.’ It was unladylike but I was in shock.”
Donald Trump’s affair with Marla Maples was publically exposed and led to the bombshell of a headline—”Best Sex I’ve Ever Had,” which Marla Maples said about Donald Trump, as reported by HuffPost.
Donald Trump’s mother, Mary, spoke to Ivana Trump after reports of his relationship with Marla Maples came out. “What kind of son have I created?” Donald Trump’s mother told Ivana Trump, according to Vanity Fair.
At the time when Ivana Trump was publically humiliated by the cheating scandal, Donald Trump Jr. was old enough to see the toll the separation was taking on the family.

“How can you say you love us? You don’t love us! You don’t even love yourself. You just love your money,” Donald Trump Jr. told his father at the age of 12, according to friends of Ivana Trump.
For a whole year after that, Donald Trump Jr. refused to speak to his father; whenever Donald Trump called him, he would hang up.
He and his brother, Eric Trump, were sent off to boarding school after the now-president divorced his wife. Donald Trump Jr. later reflected on how he acted out when his parents divorced and told New York Magazine in 2004, “You’re not quite a man, but you think you are. You think you know everything. Being driven into school every day and you see the front page and it’s: ‘Divorce! THE BEST SEX I EVER HAD!’ And you don’t even know what that means. At that age, kids are naturally cruel,” as quoted by Business Insider.
Although Donald Trump is now often seen with his children on either side of him, he was not the kind of father who would spend a lot of time with his children when they were young in the typical ways.
He only started communicating with his children properly when they reached the age where they could understand business.
“He was a loving father, don’t get me wrong, and he was a good provider, but he was not the father which would take a stroll and go to the Central Park or go play to baseball with them or something,” Ivana Trump told ABC News. “It was only until they were about 18-years-old [that] he could communicate with them because he could start to talk business with them. Before, he really didn’t know what conversation to strike with the little kids.”
The president’s children also concur with what their mother said about Donald Trump’s parenting skills. “It wasn’t a typical ‘let’s go play catch in the backyard’ sort of father-son relationship. We always went to job sites with him. We’d be in his office playing with trucks as a six-year-old while he’s negotiating deals with presidents of major companies,” Donald Trump Jr. told Anderson Cooper, as quoted by Inc.
Eric Trump also believes that his father wasn’t really the one who raised him. “In a way, [my brother, Donald Jr.] raised me. My father, I love and I appreciate, but he always worked 24 hours a day,” Eric Trump said.
When it comes to his role as a father while raising his children, Donald Trump believes his job is only to be the moneymaker. Four out of his five children are all grown up but even when his current wife and first lady, Melania Trump was pregnant with his fifth child, Barron Trump, he revealed that his still saw himself as the ATM machine while Melania was meant to take care of their child.
According to Cosmopolitan, he said on The Opie and Anthony Show when Melania Trump was pregnant, “I won’t do anything to take care of them. I’ll supply funds and she’ll take care of the kids. It’s not like I’m gonna be walking the kids down Central Park.”
